“Since my youth, God, you have taught me,
and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
Even when I am old and gray,
do not forsake me, my God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
your mighty acts to all who are to come.”
(Psalm 71:18,19, NIV)
Part of the joy of Lent is to remember the faithfulness of God. Looking back over the years I am so deeply grateful for my learning. My parents were faithful to take me to church and raise me in Sunday School. I learned the great Old Testament stories and developed my heroes from those stories. From my youth the Lord found ways to teach me. Even when the “teachers” may have not always had the purest motives (as I might find out over time), what created in me was a thirst for the Word of God and the presence of God.
I’m not gray (which may be because I don’t have much hair left), but I want to declare that faithfulness to this generation. One of the reasons I blog is to follow Christ in faith and see if others will go with me in this journey. It is part of the way I declare the greatness of God.
God is faithful. He is powerful. I reflect on his faithfulness and his power and want to declare it to anyone that would hear!
