NIV 2011 (or 2010)

While I have waited for any NIV 2011 hard copies to come available, I usually swing by my favorite stand-by: Barnes and Noble. Today I was near the store, so I looked through their supply of Bible just to see if they might be stocking the NIV update yet. I had called CBD and they were still looking at March 20. Our local Christian bookstore conglomerate was saying two months.

Barnes and Noble came through for me once again. I picked up a thinline copy of the brand new NIV. Nothing fancy, just something to have and get into.

So, at last, the update is eeking its way into our world!

  1. I’ve seen copies of the NIV 2011 in both Family Life Christian Bookstore and (the Southern Baptist) Lifeway Christian Bookstore — the latter of which I was utterly shocked to find the update, since they refused to carry the TNIV. I inquired as to why they decided to carry the update. The response I got was that the update was not quite as gender-neutral as the TNIV.

Right: I’m sure it had nothing to do with the fact that the NIV is still the #1 best-selling translation. I’m sure sales had nothing to do with their decision to carry the update. 😦

    1. It is Lifeway up here that is dragging their feet.

  2. Dan, is there any difference in style or layout?

  3. The layout isn’t my favorite: 2 column and red letter. It is very readable type for me.

Huh. Already. B&N? I wonder if they have it in ours.

  5. I’ll be checking Lifeway and B&N tomorrow since I’ll be right nearby them both. Thanks for the info!
