Thoughts on Divisions… and Unity

This week I am preaching from 1 Corinthians 1:10-18. Some initial thoughts:

What a passage to meditate on in our current political climate!

“I am of Barack Obama.”

“I am of Sarah Palin.”

“I am of the Constitution of the United States.”

We live divided. I wish we could do better in the United States. Right now we just seem stuck.

But in the Body of Christ… there is still that nasty tendency as well. We tend to forget what does indeed unify us: the Cross of Jesus Christ.

“I am of Wright.”

“I am of Piper.”

“I am of Calvin.”

“I am of Armininius.”

Help us to be of the cross. In the cross. Centered on the very foolish thing Jesus used to lift him up and draw all humanity to himself.

No cross… no celebration. No Easter. No Pentecost. No transformation.

Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain
Free to all, a healing stream
Flows from Calvary’s mountain.

In the cross, in the cross,
Be my glory ever;
Till my raptured soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.

  1. Well said Dan; reminds me of the angelic encounter Joshua had who said… I am neither for nor against you.. I am for the lord

  2. Amen. We’re all equal at the cross.
