Does the Church Shoot Its Wounded?

I am truly curious about reactions to this statement from Ted Haggard:
“The church has said, ‘Go to hell.’ The church chose not to forgive me, but instead to exile me,” he says.

If you have followed Ted Haggard’s story, as pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Springs to his rise as president of the National Association of Evangelicals, then his subsequent moral fall, do you think the church (his church specifically) gave him a “raw deal?” Or, is he taking advantage of a documentary that happens to feature him? Or, some of both?
