Tasting His Glory

I am currently full tilt into Romans. Paul’s heart is captivating me. His perspective convicts me. This is a man who was so full of Jesus he could honestly say the current sufferings he was experiencing were NOTHING compared to the glory to come.

This was a man who had tasted that glory. Christ had impacted him. He longed for the fullness of his redemption. We fool around with our lives. We are lost on ourselves.

Paul was absolutely ruined for Christ. My own life needs to reflect that same glory. Here’s the thing: I won’t find it blogging or on YouTube or GodTube or any tube. It’s in his presence.

    Dan,

    This is Lance. I am guessing (right I hope) that you were the person who left the message on my post linking to the Onion article.

    I want to let you know how sorry I am that I may have offended Pentecostal brothers and sisters. that was not my intent, but I nevertheless removed the post completely.

    For me, the article was about the narrowness I have encounter in the media, and I mean Christian media, about the Obama campaign and those of us Christians who do not want to vote Republican. It also reminded me of my own very unpleasant toxic experience in store-front Charismatic Church in the 80’s.

    I am very committed to my Eastern Christian faith tradition, but there is no triumphalism in it for me. I genuinely respect and value other faith traditions, including Pentecostals.

    I hope if that was you, you can forgive me.

    And by the way, we should also get together sometime.

    Thank you, Lance. I appreciate your kind words. Let me also say I COMPLETELY understand the frustration you feel from conservative Christians who feel voting for Obama was somehow “unChristian.” I AM a conservative Christian and I found it offensive!
    But I also find that answering with bitterness (such as the Onion article, and so many other venues) does not solve anything. We only get more bitter and attack more bitterly.

    I could also comment about the narrowness I see on the liberal side of Christianity and the vitriolic speech that has been made over the years. But why?

    I want to find a way to address MY “constituency” (so to speak) and say, “HEY! That’s enough!” I would also appreciate it from the more liberal strains of Christianity as well.

    A great chasm has been created over the years that is incredibly unfortunate. I just don’t want to add to it. If I am critical of Obama, or McCain, or Bush, or whoever, I want it to be because of a reasoned argument and not because someone happens to be on the opposite side politically or theologically. There is room for disagreement and discussion.

    I know you have a respect for Pentecostals because of our conversations and I hope you know I have a very deep respect for your tradition. I read your blog all the time!
