Consider this quote of angst by an 18-year-old: Continue reading “We would like to think our problems are unique… they are not”
Freedom from worry isn’t found in simply the absence of thinking about stuff. It is the addition of WHAT to pursue.
Pursuit is our choice.
When the pressure mounts in our lives the assumed answer, or the “default” answer, might be: “Do something!” or “Fix it!” or “Worry more!”
But generally, when the pressure mounts, the answer is probably… pray.
Ask and keep on asking.
Seek and keep on seeking.
Knock and keep on knocking.
When we really take in what Jesus is saying about the power of the Kingdom, we come to his amazing “guarantee:” you won’t worry.
No matter how many times I read this passage in Matthew 6, I still choke on this passage. Worry. Anxiety. Things that keep me up. Things that wake me up. Things that give me nightmares.
And Jesus says, “Stop.”
It does go back to FOCUS. When my treasure is in Christ, I learn to TRUST.
Life is so much more than the stuff I worry over.
Life is about his kingdom. My attention, my affections, are to be in his direction and he graciously takes care of the “little” stuff in my life.
Let my life be devoted to treasuring Jesus.
Luke 12. Life is so much more than the anxiety I get from the STUFF I have to deal with. The challenge is trust. The challenge is to understand that with Christ… I am more to him. He has my needs.
24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life[b]? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? (Luke 12:24-26, NIV)
Rest in him. TRUST in him. Life is MORE.
