Synchronicity is a concept coined by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung in the 1950s to describe meaningful coincidences that appear to have no causal connection.
Those who say, “I love God” and hate their brothers or sisters are liars. After all, those who don’t love their brothers or sisters whom they have seen can hardly love God whom they have not seen! (1 John 4:20, CEB)
I am dwelling on 1 John 4:7-21 and I’ve been struck by the connections John constantly makes in his writing. When it comes to love, we can’t claim to love God, or know God, if we don’t have love for others. The love of God pouring into our lives if we aren’t loving others. We can’t even claim to love God if we don’t love others.
And then we, like the Pharisees, may ask, “Well, who am I to love?”
That’s a bad spot to be in!
God’s love has “synchronicity.” It has connections that don’t always make sense. So, how about I don’t parse the words and simply love others? No qualifiers. Just love people.
In this I will find the love of God.
