This week I am reading for Advent 2 and it’s “John the Baptist Week” so to speak.

This has led me to this thought:

In the time leading up to Jesus and his birth, there are three short appearances that stand out to me:

Anna in the Temple
Simeon in the Temple
John in the Wilderness

Three characters living “just in the wings” of the stage of this story. They know their part and prepare. When their part comes, they enter the scene. Then, it’s over.

Our life may be all preparation and then… one act and we’re off.

It’s not our story. It’s our place in the story.
