What has formed you? (The flip side)

I asked the question HERE about the good things that have formed our lives.

The other day I was reminded of a question that was posed about the things around us and how they form us. There is formation going on all the time. As Dallas Willard would say, “Everyone gets an education. It’s just a matter of what kind.”

For too long I’ve allowed things I can easily “blame” to form me. The fault is in my own intentionality.

The internet forms me. This constant connectivity is something that is harder and harder to deal with in my life. Too many times it is my default setting to check the news feed or sports feed that I checked less than 2 minutes ago.

Social media forms me. And again… it’s not Facebook’s fault. It’s just a default I have allowed too often in my life. I’ve been able to reel back my emotional responses and how quickly I can look at social media, but the residual effects linger.

My phone forms me. I’ve taken to the habit to leave it in my car or in my bag more times now, but still! It’s a constant. I can have a book app of some sort on there, or my Bible app, but let’s be real… I’m not checking those. I would be better served have a real book in my hands constantly.

Formation goes on all around us. Education will happen. HOW it will happen is the battle in our lives.

One response to “What has formed you? (The flip side)”

  1. Goddamn the internet! This so-called “information highway” will lead us all to Revelation’s “Beast” and thence to Perdition . . . but for the omnipotent Blood of Jesus Christ applied to our souls. Like probably every other follower of Jesus, I spend more time on the foolish gadget in my hand than in prayer and God’s Holy Word. Even George Orwell never dreamed of something so diabolical as the demon in a box into which we’ve plugged our brains if not also our souls. O LORD, have mercy on all our sorry souls! https://lousyhaiku.blog/2023/08/25/lousy-haiku-246/
