“He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” (Matt. 27:42-43)
Somehow we only want to trust Christ, or believe in Christ, when he shows himself powerful. And by powerful, we mean our definition. This is how we create God in our image.
But often Jesus refuses to show himself “powerful” and instead shows us the cross. This is how we are molded into the image of Christ.
This is our struggle as believers.
