One key question in evangelism used to be this: “If you were to die tonight and come before God and he should ask, ‘Why should I let you into my heaven?’ what would you say?”
Evangelism for decades has been about what happens when we die.
The better question? “If you don’t die tonight, what are you going to do tomorrow?”
Can we answer, “I’m going to trust Jesus with all my life, with everything”?
Are you going to live life on your own? Dallas Willard would ask, “How are you doing with your kingdom?” Are you handling life… or trying to handle it… on your own?
Call people to discipleship by announcing the availability of the kingdom now. Jesus is available to trust. Jesus is actually running the world and the cosmos is under his charge.
It’s not about what you might answer on the day you die. It’s about how you are living now. That is the gospel.
