If you are in ministry, I am conducting an informal survey on the use of Linked In. Next week I am going to be part of a panel discussion for students and a key question is the use of Linked In and other Social Network sites to help in job searches.

In my understanding linkedin is best for seeking out job opportunities and being “found” by companies. For many ministers who may become “bivocational”, it’s probably best to have two linked in accounts… one focusing on job skills and experience in professional or technical fields and the other in ministerial areas in my opinion. Twice the work I know, but I think it would be best. Getting appropriate endorsements from professors, employers, etc is crucial. My wife did not use Linked in (she used an online resume) but her current position came from a head hunter searching online resumes and it’s the best position in her field she’s had in a long time. I have told my son to start building his linked in account. I say this not just as a pastor but as someone with 11 years experience in the job placement area working with youth and dislocated workers …
