We interrupt this Miley Cyrus rant (and Ben Affleck is Batman?!!?!?) rant…

I know it is SOOOO important to go over and over and over and over and over again how HORRIBLE it was that Ben Affleck is cast as Batman. How TRAGIC.

So, we’ve moved on to more meaningful rants… like Miley Cyrus’s raunchy performance at the VMAs last night. (NOTE: I don’t know who Miley Cyrus is, what VMA stands for, or why I would watch it on TV, but it MUST be serious because it is burning up the internet today!)

Unlike… Syria.

Which is quietly motoring along with chemical weapons attacks on its own people. Which is causing the U.S. to think of a strategy for a “surgical military strike.”

Good thing Miley and Ben are “distracting” us.

We are easily distracted as people in general. As believers, we need to be more on guard. The enemy loves to send us scurrying after shiny objects while we get our eyes off real matters of the Kingdom.

Don’t be this world. Don’t be consumed with the frivolous like this culture. The call of the Kingdom has to mean more. It could mean taking a couple of minutes from your nervous breakdown over Ben Affleck’s situation to pray for the people of Syria. Or the people of Egypt.

It could do some Kingdom good.

You might still have time to go look for those Miley Cyrus videos.

But if you have time for one small video about some insignificant news, have a look.

  1. People just feel helpless, I think. What’s going on in Syria is a terr

  2. Oops,
Terrible tragedy. We’ve also got politics involved with the notion of getting involved or not. Pop culture, sports, etc. has always been an escape. What amazes me is how many people don’t know or don’t care about what goes on unless it affects them personally, and I’d include some Christians in that group.

    1. I agree. We too often say, “Well, what can I do?” so we do… nothing.

But when we are so unaware and when we get SOOO upset about a Miley Cyrus event or a Ben Affleck announcement, and are SOOOO uninformed about Syria and Egypt… it’s not a great commentary.
