Shameless Prayer

5 Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story:”Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him, 6 ‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’ 7 And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’ 8 But I tell you this- though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence. (Luke 11:5-8, NLT)

We were talking about “shameless audacity” in prayer at our staff meeting.

As I thought about being more bold in prayer, and how some amazing things have happened in the past couple of weeks because I’ve prayed a little more boldly, I’ve also thought about the CONTENT of our prayer.

We think “shameless audacity” and we may tend to think: BIG things.

Reading through the Old Testament, what I was struck with in Elisha’s life was there wasn’t a request that seemed “too small.” If the porridge tasted funny, he gave them a solution. If the axehead had flown off the handle and dropped into the pond, he commanded the axehead to float.

Don’t see “shameless persistence” or “shameless audacity” and think, “Oh, well, I don’t have anything big to ask God.”

Realize you can ask God for what you need. It is persistence in any prayer that will bring his attention.
