Engaging the Kingdom — Ask, Seek, Knock

Matt. 7:7-11

Jesus seems to lay down the impossible before us when it comes to being in the Kingdom. The Sermon on the Mount can be read as incredibly demanding and grueling.

The King doesn’t ask his disciples to do the impossible. He lays out the means to climb to what seems impossible. It lies in those very simple words: ask, seek, knock.

We often have such shallow lives as disciples because we fail to persist in asking, seeking, and knocking, or we ask selfishly (James 4:2-3). Whatever the case, too often we are playing at the shallow end of pool, satisfied with having our feet cooled off by the water rather than heading for the deep end to see what adventure lies before us.

The Kingdom needs disciples who persist in seeking. People who don’t give up easily. For them, the richness of the Kingdom unfolds.
