2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. (1 Peter 2:2-3, NIV)
If there is anything I could invite you to in understanding my deep passion for the King and his Kingdom it is this: just taste.
Taste the incredible goodness of the Kingdom of God.
Several years ago we had some missionaries from Thailand share with us and the husband shared about the exotic types of foods available in Thailand. Chocolate covered ants. Finely sauteed beetles. Something like that.
He said when church teams would come from the States they would want to try some exotic food (at times).
Then, he related it to the Kingdom of God. The invitation is to taste and see that the Lord is good, not that he is “exotic” or “weird” or “interesting.” The Kingdom of God is not some “weird” taste. It is taste that says to your soul, “You didn’t know what taste was until you had this applied to your spirit!”
This is what I always want for an invitation to people. Taste the goodness of the Kingdom.
There are people who eat Burger King hamburgers all their lives and think that is “good beef.” Most of the time we have settled for spiritual junk food because we think that is “good taste” and we have not sat at a real table with real spiritual food and understood the good taste of the Kingdom of God.
When we taste the goodness of the King’s table, we then can look at the claims of the King and understand his taste is worth the cost. His goodness has a higher calling than our own small satisfactions. We realize what we are truly designed for.
But you have to taste.
