What is it we fear?

Maybe we don’t think it’s fear. Yet, when it comes to talking about truly following Christ, I am really hear people being passionate… about not being passionate.

“Relax, dude!”

What is it we fear?

We are not looking carefully into Scripture anymore and we call those who really love the Word “biblicists,” like it’s a dirty label.

We are not praying anymore and we call those who want to pray “fanatics,” or “holier than thou.”

We are passionate about not being passionate.

What is it we fear?

One response to “What is it we fear?”

  1. I have been reflecting on your message from Sunday…mainly the call for “devotion.” Devotion is needed in my life and in the life of His church. We need to actively pursuing this and encouraging others to pursue this. Devoting ourselves to prayer, to study of His Word, to service of others, to testifying about His works in our lives and in others’. What do we fear? I think we do fear labeling and we fear pragmatics. The sad thing is, I think most of the fear of labeling comes from others within the body of Christ. I think as a body, we are quick to label our brothers and sisters, and thus harm the body. We like to think that we are right and know the right way to practice our faith. It should look like this (often times we can’t live up to that standard ourselves…sound familiar?).

We are both thin skinned and hesitant to be “labeled” as followers. In the same way we are quick to label and offer judgement on practices of authentic faith. Lord help us quit with the Self Injurious Behaviors!
