We Are Consumed on Ourselves

20 “The harvest is past,
the summer has ended,
and we are not saved.”

21 Since my people are crushed, I am crushed;
I mourn, and horror grips me.
22 Is there no balm in Gilead?
Is there no physician there?
Why then is there no healing
for the wound of my people? (Jer. 8:20-22, NIV)

I have no idea who Mindy McCready is, but I know the story of her suicide has caught my heart.  Then, THIS STORY about how many “celebrities” have died who were on a celebrity rehab show.

With all of the “reality” shows and our clamor for our own 15 minutes of fame, there is a sense of grieving I feel in my heart from time to time. This is one of those times.

There is a sense of desperation we can feel. “The summer has ended, and we are not saved.” A sense of hopelessness.

Where is the healing? Is there no place for healing anymore?

We are refusing the One who is our Healer. We think we have him, but we only have our version of him, thus missing out on true healing. There is a Healer. He longs for us to turn our faces toward him.

We can be saved.
