Idols

I am working my way through the first six chapters of Daniel in my sermon series. Next Sunday is Daniel 3, the story of Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. (We know their Babylonian names better: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.)

Just one early thought to get going for the week:

The idol of a culture is set up and three young men decide they will not bow to the idol of that culture. They are willing to lay it on the line, realizing that God IS able to deliver them, but if he decides not to they will go down serving him.

We need more in our own culture who are part of this “but if not” group.

One response to “Idols”

  1. I think we need more awareness to the idols of our culture. They are not as obvious looking as a giant statue. They are subtle and very appealing to our senses, which makes the “but if not” different. Will we depend on Him to fulfill our passions and desires, or will we bow to the idols of a culture that feed our human passions.
