16 So this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone,
a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation;
the one who relies on it
will never be stricken with panic. (Isaiah 28:16, NIV)
What God lays down as a foundation is the sure thing. Israel had been dealing with any other way to make life happen other than God. They even boasted about making a covenant with death (v. 15).
We keep looking for any other way to do life other than the sure way.
We have lousy excuses. We make up bumper sticker answers as to why we haven’t “tried God.”
“Burned by the Church.”
“I like Jesus, but I can’t stand his followers.”
“Religion is for the weak minded.”
On and on.
Meanwhile, that sure foundation is there. And those who trust in that foundation need not live in fear or panic.
In a day when we are burying 26 members of a community and gun sales are going through the roof again, we might want to weigh out our options more carefully. We may be living with a bit more fear and anxiety than we want to admit.
What are you relying on today?
