Sliding Jeremy Renner into the main role, expanding the scope of what Treadstone and other “projects” that followed it were doing to national security, still keeping the Jason Bourne angle alive… all of it worked for me. The Bourne Legacy had the obligatory chase scenes. It had the variations on the theme of taking some vehicle up or down staircases in a crowded urban setting. It had the deepening conspiracy theories.
But the character of Aaron Cross is different that Jason Bourne. He needed to be different in some say.
What would be mind-blowing to me is to keep the series going in two directions now. There is no doubt this Bourne movie has a sequel. It’s wide open. But what if they talked Matt Damon back to the set? What if they could do two Bourne movies… or one where they both meet… It left a lot of good possibilities.
The Bourne franchise seems to be in good hands right now.
