For the Nations

A favorite book of mine I use when teaching my Old Testament classes is Walter Kaiser’s Mission in the Old Testament: Israel as a Light to the Nations.

One of the Psalms in this little book is Psalm 67. Kaiser walks through the structure of the Psalm and then how this particular Psalm has such insight into God’s heart for the nations.

The use of “God” is Elohim instead of Yahweh. This would open up the Psalm so other people, besides the Jews, could have witness to God. This was also a Psalm used in the Feast of Pentecost. So, on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2, this particular Psalm has been used then there is the experience of the upper room.

1 Let God grant us grace and bless us;
   let God make his face shine on us,
Selah

 2 so that your way becomes known
   on earth,
   so that your salvation becomes known among all the nations. (Ps. 67:1,2, CEB)

“…your salvation becomes known among all the nations…” And on the Day of Pentecost here are people from all sorts of nations hearing the praises of God.

Our God has come down. He has come for us. He has come for the nations.

Let the nations rejoice!
