Ideas for 9/11

I am thinking through some of the things to prepare for the tenth anniversary of 9/11. Since it falls on a Sunday, there are some things to reflect on for our church and we will use that time to truly reflect on our world. But beyond that, I have contemplated what might be some ideas for 9/11 to truly “love our neighbor.”

One idea, since our congregation is right across the street from the public safety building in our town, is to bake cookies or a cake and take it over to our firefighters and police officers. Thank them for their service to our community.

Another idea, since our community has a solid Muslim population, is to visit the local mosque soon to reach out and let them know we refuse to hate and their presence in our community is not a threat to who we are as believers in Jesus Christ.

If the mosque idea is too radical, maybe go out to lunch on 9/11 at a Muslim-owned restaurant.

At any rate, I am still mulling over ideas. Any suggestions?

One response to “Ideas for 9/11”

  1. to verbally say “forgive me, forgive us, for judging you, for not liking you because you are different than me culturally, physically and religiously because of ignorance and intolerance” is a good step. maybe we personally do not hate or think of Muslims as a threat, but some americans do, and some are even christ- believers. – and because of this, , many muslims don’t like us as a whole, here and abroad.
