NIV2011, Reviews, and Lifeway’s Stance to This Point

Last week I was in the vicinity of a Lifeway Christian Bookstore in the Twin Cities, so I stopped in to see if they were following the directive from the Southern Baptist Annual Convention earlier this year. This is the edict where Lifeway was given a “suggestion” to not stock the NIV2011 (it being a “heretical” translation and all).

Thankfully, this particular store didn’t get the notice. They had the NIV2011. HOWEVER… they had more shelves of the NIV1984. For anyone looking to stock up on this particular edition for posterity, you still have plenty of choices.

It’s too bad Zondervan doesn’t order all retailers to move to the NIV2011 like Tyndale could with their NLT second edition.

In other news, here is another review of the NIV2011.

Are you kidding? Then they would disenfranchise all the NIV-only churches (you know, the “The NIV is God’s perfect revelation to the English speaking world . . . and the rest of the world too” type of churches)!

  2. I thought the KJV was God’s perfect word….

It was, until 1984. Some of those independent Baptist churches just haven’t got the memo yet.

  4. Well, if it was sent by email, it’ll still be awhile…
