Right into college or not?

Interesting interview on should kids go straight to college?

I will say this as an adjunct professor: Those who have been out of high school and had a couple of years working, or traveling, or doing a missions trip, are FAR more ready to hit the books than most kids coming straight from high school into college.

  1. I did community college after highschool and that was interesting but I did much better in college after I took a break and did a stint with YWAM (I did a DTS at the Montana Base in 1994 – went to the South of Thailand for the outreach)….

    1. I think those are viable ways to start into college. I went right into college and loved it. My oldest son worked right out of high school then started college after a few months of just working. He is doing great. We need to learn HOW to walk kids into this process.

  2. I went overseas on a working-missions trip for a year and a half before going to college. It made me appreciate school much more and I had more direction.

  3. I was an older student – mid to late 20’s and I loved college and did much better than I had in HS. I’d already had my kids though and Brandon said that he wanted to get all his education straight because he watched me juggle so much.
