Get the Gear On

One of the Advent readings in a devotional I am using had me in Romans 13:11-14 yesterday and today.

Wake up! Put aside the deeds of darkness! Put on Christ!

One of my teams, the Kansas City Chiefs, is finally waking up. After years of slumber they are having a decent year and it’s fun to read about. Being in Minnesota, I don’t get to see many games. In fact, the only game I have seen on TV up here is the Denver game when the Broncos humiliated them from the opening drive.

After two embarrassing losses to Denver and Oakland, the coach had the players practice in full pads for six straight practices. He wanted them to practice with a game mentality. Practice to WIN, not just walk through the plays. It’s paid off with a couple of solid wins.

This call from Paul is a call to get the gear on. Practice like a winner. Play like a winner. Don’t be caving in to how the rest of the world is playing their game. Jealousy. Lust. Drunkenness.

Get the gear on.

Put on Christ. Be consumed with his agenda, and not your own.
