Hunger

I have been on a wonderful journey through Psalm 119. The entire Psalm is about the Word of God. Over and over the psalmist “gushes” with delight at the Law. This journey has opened up my hunger even more for the Word. God’s word to me… to the Church… is so life-giving. It is full of hope.

As my Bible reading and study this year has taken me through the Old and New Testament, a recurring theme seems to emerge:

The goal is the fear of the Lord. Through the fear of the Lord we know him and find wisdom for life. To get to this point, we must trust him. To trust him, we must step out and obey. And in all of it, we find his faithfulness. He doesn’t mind being reminded of his promises. And when I remind him of his promises, it only reinforces his faithfulness to me. Even if his response seems “slow,” I find that when I am in his presence reminding him of just how slow he is, I find joy.

I guess what I am saying is I’m really hungry for his word, his presence, his faithfulness. In that hunger is an immense joy that keeps right on growing.
