This Bible came as a gift to me from Zondervan. Rick Mansfield had a sign up period on his blog and I actually WON something this time! Thanks, Rick!
This Bible is gorgeous! I had purchased the TNIV Reference Bible last year, and this is the same internal Bible. The cover is the difference, and what a difference! It is a joy to handle this Bible when I preach. This is a Bible I would love working from for years, using it in ministry and having it as an heirloom for my family.
It is also great to see Zondervan printing more “regular” Bibles for regulars joe’s like me. I don’t need “pretty.” I just want a good leather Bible. It’s about time this hits the market! It is my hope Zondervan will finally get serious about this translation.
My adult life from Bible college on favored the New American Standard, then the New Revised Standard. The TNIV is much better than the NIV in some small, but significant ways. It’s good to use this translation because when I read it publicly, most using the NIV will still be able to follow. For me, personally, it’s a bit more toward the “formal equivalence” side of translation, which just fits me better. I will always lean more toward a more “literal” translation, and the TNIV is a translation that leans more in that direction, but is still very readable, especially in a congregational setting.
