We often talk about how we just do things. A father who explodes at his child in an angry outburst and then says, “Why does he make me do that?”

Dallas Willard had a great come back for a man who claimed he couldn’t help but get angry with his somewhat rebellious teenage son. The man was quite well off, so Dallas Willard told him it was very possible for him to stop having these outbursts. The man doubted him. Dallas told him to be accountable to his wife in the following way: The next time he had an angry outburst toward their son he would donate $5000 to her favorite charity. He would do so every time he had an angry outburst toward their son.

The man understood.
