The conundrum the Church so often faces in “connecting” with what we have called the “postmodern” culture is almost laughable at times.
For one, I think we have fallen upon another marketing technique in some evangelical circles, and we are always ready to make a buck. Just like the “church growth” movement 25 years ago, there are so many people willing to pay big bucks to hear the latest “techniques”, and there are far too many “experts” willing to help these people part with their money.
Beyond our lust for power, influence, and money in this area, there would simply not be a “market” for this if we were more and more people of the Book. The more I dive into Acts and the powerful letters of Paul, the more I realize Paul and the early church were proclaiming bold truth in a very pluralistic age. They proclaimed it boldly, and with power.
One great study for everyone in ministry needs to be Acts 19 and the Book of Ephesians. This is a pluralistic culture! See how God invades this culture radically, and then how Paul directs them to shape their lives in light of the gospel.
Then, go do it.
