Ramblings of a Confessing Pentecostal

Silence

I finished an overnight silent retreat at Pacem in Terris. The best way to accomplish this is two nights and three days. Time was extremely limited so I was happy to get away for one night. Pacem is close to my home and offers complete silence in a hermitage. I am so thankful for the opportunity to get away, completely unplug, and allow the Lord to refresh my soul.

Richard Foster and Dallas Willard guide me the best when it comes to understanding the power of silence and solitude. But Thomas A Kempis is no slouch on this as well.

The mark of solitude is silence, as speech is the mark of community. Silence and speech have the same inner correspondence and difference as do solitude and community. One does not exist without the other. Right speech comes out of silence, and right silence comes out of speech. — Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
